I ran into an interesting bug, that has likely been plaguing me for a while. Effectively, the Jellyfin stream caused the entire PC to lockup, including the hypervisor, though visually, the PC seemed to be operating normally. Back when this machine was a gaming PC, I had a similar issue, where during gaming/streaming sessions, the device would hang and be non-interactive. No errors were logged, so I always expected a hardware issue, but the infrequency and randomness of the error caused headaches for years.

Before starting this page, I used my old gaming PC to setup a homelab with the following: Proxmox hypervisor with GPU passthrough TrueNAS with ZFS mirror for redundant storage Jellyfin with RTX 3080 hardware transcoding NFS for network storage between VMs I also setup a custom 3d printed box, following HomeRacker, to use with some RaspberryPi 5s, a network switch, and some other misc. hardware to eventually build into a GPU rack or AI/ML model hosting service.
